We have a new category at Digitals called CREATE YOUR OWN KIT and it is totally A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!! The designers were given a theme and a color palette and we were to create mini packs of coordinating items. What fun! Now you, the customer, can mix and match designer products and create your very own Mega Kit! The project goes "LIVE" tomorrow, February 4th. LETTER SIZE BACKGROUNDS AVAILABLE NOW!

Hi Y'all!

Do you prefer to scrap your pages at 8.5" x 11" rather than the larger square 12" x 12?" I know several digital scrappers that do. So, after lengthy discussion with several of my fellow designers I have decided to offer several backgrounds in traditional US Letter Size (8.5" x 11").

I decided to kick off this new venture with a letter size version of my FRIENDSHIP backgrounds. FRIENDSHIP is my new collaboration kit with my dear friend Vicky of Today's Scrap. She has done some awesome elements and word art that coordinate with these background papers. Scroll down to the previous post and you can click on the links to go to our respective stores to pick up the individual packs. To go directly to the Letter Size version just click on the preview or CLICK HERE.

There are definitely pros to making your layouts 8.5" x 11," not the least of those being ease of printing. You can print your own pages edge-to-edge (full bleed) and not have to trim any unwanted white borders and they will fit right into a standard letter size binder. I would recommend using acid-free page protectors to keep your pages clean. One other is that embellishments will also fit letter sized layouts. You may have to resize a bit, but you probably do that on 12" x 12" layouts anyway.

If you have never done Project 365 (one layout per day) or Project 52 (one layout per week recapping the week's activities), now might be a good time to try it. If you are time challenged you could do what I call "Project Monthly" and do a multiple photo page with journaling that recaps the month's activities. It's a great way to get all those photos scrapped!

DAY 4 OF THE POINT & SHOOT BLOG TRAIN

Wow! Day 4 already! I know a lot of you are probably looking at these and saying, "Well, I don't have enough photos to fill all those openings!" I neglected to say that you can also fill some of the openings with background papers from your favorite kits! Be sure to resize them, though, so the pattern looks right. For instance, the 3rd board in the set (shown in the lower left hand corner) has 25 small openings (2"x 2" or 600 x 600 pixels each). You should either resize your background to 600x600 or cut a piece that size and make sure it fits just under the grid lines so you won't have any blank areas showing. Or, you can place your photos where you want them leaving some spaces open and then slip any full sized background underneath and it will show wherever you don't have photos.

We are on the downhill side of this year's Christmas In July blog train. Only 3 more days to grab your freebies! Some of you who are new to hybrid may want to know why my backgrounds do not have the hole placement indicated. I do this on many of my do it yourself albums so that you can choose where to punch the hole to join your pages. Also, there are different sizes and shapes for hole punches and you don't want any white showing should you have a smaller punch than the designated hole.

Went for my follow-up visit after the surgery today. He says I am doing fine and that I need to put the drops in my eye 3 times a day for the next 2 weeks. I found that my vision has been corrected so much that I cannot now wear my current glasses. I probably will still have to wear glasses though, just not as strong. We will see when I go back in 2 weeks.

Good Morning All! First of all let me apologize for not having the preview up today. I am having cataract surgery on my right eye on Wednesday morning and there has been a lot of running around to do preparing for it. Also, about a month ago my PC got a virus while downloading a file from MediaFire (no doubt through one of those stupid pop-ups) and I have been working on my laptop. So it has been really slow going getting used to using my programs on the laptop which has Windows 7 (my PC is WindowsXP). I will get the hang of it sooner or later... LOL!

Hello Everyone! Welcome to the DST Blog Train for November! I have previously participated in
store event blog trains but this is my first with the DST gang. Apparently due to a glitch my blog link is not on the list, so I don't know whose blog you arrived here from. I also don't know whose blog you will visit next.

For those of you who don't know me, I sell my Designs exclusively at Digital Scrapbook Pages
(Digitals). My style would be termed eclectic I guess. I like clean, I like shabby and most of my
kits have some of each included depending on the theme. I am not fond of deep grunge or super
dark colors. I love ribbons, frames and flowers! My kits are very large, usually with a minimum of 30 backgrounds and 100 elements. All my products (except for the FREE ones) are S4O/S4H friendly. You can go HERE to shop my store.

The kit you are about to download was a wonderful challenge for me. The colors were very easy
to work with, but the theme was very broad and something I had little knowledge of except for
attending the Chinese New Year parade in San Francisco as a child or strolling through the
Japanese Tea Gardens in beautiful Golden Gate Park. So, what I ended up with was a mixture of Chinese and Japanese styles. This is a full-sized kit and will be up for sale in my store at Digitals after the blog train.

School Alphabet Collection. There are six alphabets in this kit. Each alphabet includes upper case letters A-Z, Numbers 0-9 and selected symbols. They are large (a minimum of 3" tall) but are very easily resized according to your needs. These are the pages my dear friend & CT member Leslie made using the Mis Amigos/My Friends hybrid album she designed using my Cinco de Mayo, Segunda Parte kit. I really went on and on yesterday, didn't I? I hope I didn't offend anyone, because that was not my intention. That is the great thing about this country: Freedom of Speech! If you don't believe that then try living somewhere where they don't guarantee it! LOL! I think I will stay right here!

A word about genealogy and then on to the freebie. For those of you who aren't aware of it, your local public library more than likely has a lot of resources if you want to research your family tree. They have access to Passenger Lists and Immigration Lists and may even have access to local census records for the area you are researching. All of these resources are free. And, if they don't have it there physically they can probably get it for you through Interlibrary Loan.

COUNTDOWN TO 2010 - Day 6 Freebie

Yesterday I blogged about journaling. Boy, did I! But it is an important part of what we do. There are a lot of things you can use to journal on. Many of my kits offer journaling boxes for this purpose. Another fun thing to use is journaling strips! You can use several of these on a layout.... one word or phrase per strip to make up the whole description. Add a tag with the name/place/date. Just a few ideas to enhance your layouts!

Well, today is the last day of 2009! I hope it was a good year for you. For some it was not. Some lost their jobs and even their homes. Those of us who were fortunate enough to not be in this position need to help our fellow man in whatever way we can. Donate some food to a local food bank or clothes you and your family don't wear anymore to Goodwill or American Veterans. Pray for a turnaround in our economy so that jobs once again become available for all who are needing them to support their families.

Those of you who know me know that I am passionately patriotic! I L-O-V-E America and all it stands for. Freedom isn't free. This is the land of the free because of the brave. Reflect on how many young men and women have lost their lives in previous and this current war to protect that freedom. I would say that is a very high price to pay. So, no... FREEDOM isn't free. To the brave men and women who are currently in the Middle East... I salute and pray for your safety. To their families.... mothers, fathers, wives, husbands and children.... I pray that they will return to you soon safe and whole. To those who have lost children, friends, or spouses.... may God comfort you in your time of sorrow. My sympathy is with you all. Thank you for your sacrifice.

By now you all know how I feel about journaling! Whether it is an appropriate quotation or a poem I firmly believe that the most gorgeous layout is bare without something to describe the photo or the person in the photo. I mean, why do you scrap in the first place? Be it paper, digi or hybrid, you scrap to preserve memories and photos for future generations so they know where and who they came from. They might like to know what you or their parents were like as children, what they did for entertainment, where they went on vacations, etc. Right now, you have all this information at your fingertips.... all you have to do is write it down. Full-size journaling pages are part of this download. You can print them out and journal by hand if you like.... kind of makes it more personal that way. Be sure to use acid-free pens available for scrapbooking.

ALL IN THE FAMILY CHALLENGE & FREEBIE

Hi Y'all! Well, I can't swear it will last, but Fall seems to have come to the deep South! It may not last very long, but we have been having some really nice days! And the best news is that so far our NFL team, the New Orleans Saints are so undefeated! A first! I hope they continue this winning streak. They are a 40 year old franchise and have never been to a Super Bowl! They play on Monday Night Football tonight! Geaux Saints! Unfortunately, my two hometown teams, the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders have not done so well the past few seasons. I guess there is only one Dynasty allowed per team and those two have already had theirs!If you haven't participated in the challenges at Digitals, there is no time like the present to start! We have lots of fun and the more challenges you complete, the more monthly kit pieces you receive! I am offering a free kit to complete my All In The Family challenge with. It happens to coordinate with the above paper pack. Imagine that!

Before I give the link to the freebie pictured above, I would like to say a few words about JOURNALING. I love journaling and I think that it, other than the photo itself, is the heart of any layout! I see so many layouts in the gallery without so much as a name, date or place on a tag! How can future generations know who is in the photos or when they were taken? Surely if you take the time to make a beautiful layout to enhance your photo you can take the time to say a few words for posterity! The other thing is font color. Many of the backgrounds we work with are dark colors or blends. I have seen a lot of layouts using BLACK for the journaling and it just doesn't show up well! I find myself squinting to try and read the journaling. I usually give up. There is nothing wrong with using white, cream or any other color if it makes your journaling readable! Most of my kits include journaling boxes and you should use them! They enhance your journaling and your layout! If a kit doesn't include a journaling box element then cut one out of a coordinating background. Also, if you must add a drop shadow to your text, make it a very small one! Most programs will allow you to adjust the size/depth. The words should not look like they are floating above the page.

Woo-Hoo! What a ride! Thanks to all of you for downloading my free blog train gift! Some of you might be saying to yourselves, "but I don't really want to take the time to make a hybrid album." Well, you can still use this kit to make the pages and then mount them on 12"x12" backgrounds! I don't print 12"x12" layouts. A couple of reasons: the paper is very expensive, it takes a lot of ink to print them and many times the album size is too large for a bookshelf. I create all my pages at 12"x12" and then reduce them to 8"x8" for printing. I then trim the printed layouts and place them in page protectors in 8"x8" albums.

Another way would be to create your hybrid page, mount it on a plain coordinating background and go to one of the sites that offers photo books. There are many styles and sizes to choose from, and with a few adjustments you can put your layouts into their templates and voila! you have a beautiful hardcover book!

You know, Christmas is just around the corner! I hate to say it, but it's true! Now is the time to start making your gifts! Albums of digital layouts are among the most coveted. Whether they are traditional albums or hybrid shaped albums, they can be passed on from generation to generation. That is why it is so important to include names and dates of photos at the very least on your layouts. More journaling is certainly desirable but optional. Tip: If you are going to add journaling, check your spelling! If you are in doubt, look it up in the dictionary! Yep! Same tip your teachers always gave you. LOL!

Since I didn't do individual daily previews I thought I should post the composite preview again. If you have never made a hybrid album, you should try it now! With this kit you could make an album of photos from Christmases past. It would make a wonderful gift for your parents! This album measures approximately 6" x 6" and there are enough backgrounds and elements to choose from to decorate 12 pages and even add a little journaling if you like!
